Soreness, headaches, and any symptoms that you didn’t have before being in an accident is a sign you’ve been injured. The seriousness of the injury can vary and must be examined to clear any underlying problems. We want to avoid the chronic “nagging” and “uncomfortable” feeling that often results due to the accident.
Accident injuries can take days or weeks to appear!
We’re here to make sure it’s not serious and fix the problem before it gets worse.
Here are a couple of case studies that points out the serious effects of an car accident injury.
History: This patient was stopped at a red light when an on-coming car failed to stop in time and rear-ended her going at approximately 45 miles an hour. She didn’t feel any pain initially and remained conscious throughout the ordeal. The next day she felt severe sharp pain in her lower back preventing her from getting out of bed! She called to make an appointment. After taking x-rays we suspected a disc injury so she was sent to get an MRI. MRI results revealed L4/L5 disc tear and L5/S1 herniation.
Treatment: Patient was placed on a treatment plan of 3x a week for the first month involving passive modalities of EMS, traction, manual therapy, and adjustments. Following 2 months, she was monitored of progress and reduced in frequency from 3x to 2x to 1x a week. Patient was also under the care of a medical doctor which oversaw her progress with constant muscle spasms and inflammation.
Results: After 3.5 months of active and passive care, she recovered from her injury and feels little to no pain at all. Her prognosis is good due to the timely manner she took care of her injuries and being consistent and proactive with care. Risk of degeneration and arthritis has been reduced. She was educated on how to maintain and perform maintenace routines at home. She walked out of our office better than when she came in and with a empowered state of mind, she will be a healthier individual.
Case Study #1
History: Patient was in an accident where he was side swiped from a car who did not see him in their blind spot. Initially there was no signs of injury, bruises, cuts, or pain. Several days later, patient complains of decreased in energy often feeling fatigued, headaches, and slight neck pain. Imaging revealed slight arthritis and herniation of C5/C6 disc.
Treatment: He was treated with cryotherapy along with EMS to reduce inflammation and increase healing. Manual therapy was performed on his cervical and upper thoracic areas to improve mobility and spasms. Adjustments were performed throughout his spine to assure proper alignment due to the imbalance and restrictions due to his soft tissue injury.
Results: Patient was released from active care with pain level 0-1. He was back to full energy and is able to perform his work without the discomfort and nagging pain he once had after the accident.
